Meet Your New Representative – Secretary of State (Seniors) The Honourable Stephanie McLean, MP

The portfolio for Seniors has since fallen under the auspices of Employment and Social Development Canada, headed up by The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families.

The Honorable Stephanie McLean has taken the mantle of the Secretary of State, specifically for Seniors.

MP McLean represents the riding of Esquimalt—Saanich—Sooke

The Honourable Stephanie McLean was first elected as Member of Parliament for Esquimalt–Saanich–Sooke in the spring of 2025 and, shortly after, joined Mark Carney’s government as Secretary of State (Seniors).

In 2015, she was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Alberta and served as Minister of Status of Women and Minister of Service Alberta. She made history when she became the first member of the Legislative Assembly in Alberta to give birth while in office.

Secretary McLean earned her law degree from the University of Calgary. As a practising lawyer, she represented both unions and employers, including acting as general counsel for a building trades union. She has called Vancouver Island home since 2019 and lives in the city of Colwood with her husband Shane, son Patrick, and their three dogs.

We look forward to hearing more from this MP regarding the state of seniors in Canada.

The collaboration and organization of all seniors with a voice by strength of unity of all seniors in Canada would be so much more effective than a government MP

Think about how the mass organization of NRA in the USA and the power that unity of people with one purpose works to get effective government response!
Seniors in Canada are primarily baby boomers now and we have a majority voice!
